Seminario - Climate predictions: recent developments and applications

In this seminar, the historical development and the rationale of climate predictions and their contemporary classifications into sub‐seasonal, seasonal and decadal forecasts will be discussed. The seminar will review the state‐of‐the‐art operational predictions and will provide insight into promising proofof‐ concept approaches to bridge them with sectoral applications. Example applications in the context of water management and human health are also provided.

Seminario - Geopolymers: From the Earth to the Moon

Geopolymers consist of silico-aluminates in an amorphous to semi-crystalline three-dimensional structure and exhibit an excellent performance. 3D-printing of geopolymers produced from lunar regolith is an interesting option for space in situ habitats. In this study, the influence of the severe lunar environmental conditions such as extreme temperature variations and vacuum on the physical and mechanical properties of lunar regolith geopolymers were also investigated.

Nell’articolato comparto delle attività estrattive il geologo riesce a rivestire con successo la funzione di tecnico, grazie alle conoscenze dei giacimenti, dei cicli produttivi, delle tecniche di estrazione e di valorizzazione dei prodotti, grazie alla capacità di operare nel complesso apparato normativo nonché per la rilevante predisposizione nella valutazione degli impatti derivanti dai lavori di coltivazione. La conoscenza dell’impiantistica e la conseguente abilità di ottimizzare i costi di produzione combinate alla completa disponibilità di operare in cantiere, conferiscono al geologo un ruolo fondamentale per la progettazione e per una corretta gestione operativa di cave e miniere, per la prevenzione e la sicurezza dei lavoratori e per la tutela dell’ambiente.

Seminario - The “complex” electrical conductivity of ice and frozen ground

This Seminar will revise ongoing approaches in the investigation of alpine permafrost using geophysical electrical methods and demonstrate the importance of accounting for interfacial conductivity in the case of frozen ground, as presented in Figure 1. Moreover, the seminar will present some of our recent results regarding the application of transient electromagnetic soundings to delineate ice‐rich areas in alpine permafrost. To this end, we propose a stochastic modeling and inversion approach explicitly considering interfacial conductivity that permits us to evaluate the uncertainty of the resulting model parameters.
