Final Examination
The final examination consists of a thesis written by the student under the guidance of a supervisor. It includes a period of field research and/or laboratory activity and/or internship in professional companies, both public and private.
The final examination consists also of the discussion of the thesis infront of a Commission appointed by the Department Director. It takes the form of a multimedia presentation lasting approximately 10 minutes, followed by about 5 minutes of discussion. The
final examination is open to the public.
The official template (including the cover page) is provided below. Please follow the indicated format.
The recommended length is between 20 and 40 pages, corresponding to approximately 35,000–75,000 characters (including spaces). As a reference, one page of the template (font size 12, 1.5 line spacing, 3 cm margins) corresponds to approximately 1,800 characters.

Use of Artificial Intelligence in the Thesis
The use of generative Artificial Intelligence tools is allowed only as support for study and writing activities, in accordance with the Guidelines on Generative Artificial Intelligence for Teaching and Research of the University of Padua (2025).
In line with these guidelines, the use of AI must be explicitly declared, specifying which tools were used, how they were used, and in which parts of the work.
Students remain fully responsible for critically verifying all generated content, ensuring the originality of the work, and guaranteeing that the thesis reflects their own independent contribution.
Example of declaration to include in the thesis
“Generative Artificial Intelligence tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot) were used in the preparation of this thesis as support for language revision and content organization.
Specifically, these tools were used for [describe how, e.g., rephrasing sentences, suggesting structure, clarifying concepts], and only in the following sections: [indicate chapters or parts].
All outputs were critically reviewed by the author, who takes full responsibility for the final content of the thesis.”
Thesis Upload
To be admitted to the final exam, students must upload a digital copy of the thesis in PDF/A format to the Uniweb portal
GUIDE: pay particular attention to the following aspects:
1) The document uploaded on Uniweb must:
a) represent the final version of the thesis
b) be in PDF/A FORMAT: instructions for creating a document in PDF/A format
c) have a maximum size of 40 megabytes
d) be named according to the standard SURNAME_NAME.pdf (e.g.: ROSSI_MARIO.pdf)
2) The uploading of the final thesis document must be completed NO LATER THAN 3 DAYS PRIOR to the date of the graduation: this deadline is imperative and any replacement of the attachment with the thesis paper is only possible by the deadline.
3) At least 15 days before the date on which the final dissertation is to be discussed, the student must send this graduation confirmation form to the Student Office of the Department of Geosciences (didattica.geoscienze@unipd.it)
