The Library and the Department of Geosciences and the Museum of Nature and Humankind (MNU) of the University of Padua invite to visit the
Virtual Exhibition dedicated to Achille De Zigno
Through a selection of printed works, unpublished manuscripts, archival documents and fossils, the viewer will discover Achille De Zigno's life, work and legacy as geologist and palaentologist, his tireless researching and writing, remarkable meticulousness, extraordinary network of relationships and international reputation.
The biographical portrait also highlights his political commitment as an administrator, in the tumultuous years of the Risorgimento in Padua.
In 1892, Giovanni Omboni, then Director of the Cabinet of Geology, acquired De Zigno's bibliographic and geopalaentological collections. These collections are now preserved at the Geosciences Library and in the Section of Geology and Paleontology of the Museum of Nature and Humankind (MNU) of the University of Padua. Moreover, in 2021 De Zigno's heirs donated his private archive, which the exhibition aims to enhance.
Some of De Zigno's works and fossil remains reproduced in the virtual exhibition and a selection of books on the history of geology are on display at the Geosciences Library.
