Geology & Planetary Mapping Winter School
From 1 to 5 February 2021, the Department of Geosciences co-organizes the first Winter School of PLANMAP (PLANetary MAPping), a European Horizon 2020 project designed to create geological maps of the Moon, Mercury and Mars. The Winter School aims to train the new generation of planetary mappers, providing them with cutting-edge tools for creating geological maps and 3D geological models.
The last day of the Winter School is partly dedicated to the "Cassini Workshop", focused on the applications of virtual reality in the planetary field and for the training of astronauts. Thanks to the use of virtual reality headsets, participants will immerse themselves in a virtual environment to simulate a planetary surface, experiencing first-hand the potential of virtual reality in the study of planetary geology.
Registrations are open until 15 January 2021 13:00 CET
Registrations and more information are available here
Other institutions involved in the Winter School are the Istituto di Astrofisica e Planetologia Spaziali di Roma – INAF, the bachelor and master degrees in Scienze Geologiche e Scienze and Tecnologie Geologiche della Terra e dei Pianeti at Università degli Studi G. D’Annunzio, the Jacobs University, the WWU Münster, the German Aerospace Center, the Open University and the Laboratory of Planetology and Geodynamics.
The workshop is promoted and funded by the Ambassade de France en Italie/Institut français d'Italie and co-funded by the Centro di Ateneo di Studi e Attività Spaziali “Giuseppe Colombo” – CISAS. Other institutions involved in the workshop are the Università degli Studi di Padova, the Laboratory of Planetology and Geodynamics, the WWU Münster, the Università di Bologna – Dipartimento di Scienze Biologiche, Geologiche e Ambientali and the European Space Agency (ESA).
This Winter School receives funding from the European Union Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under grant agreements N. 776276 and N. 871149.
