“The year 2020 was a year like no other, and it was one that deeply changed our lives. From online lectures, conferences and meetings to empty offices, everyone at the Department of Geosciences quickly adapted to this new normality, trying to make the best of it”. With these words Fabrizio Nestola, Director of the Department of Geosciences and Full Professor in Mineralogy, introduces “Yearbook 2020”, the second edition of the departmental yearbook, which collects and presents all the people and the activities that characterised our 2020.
The main aim of the 2020 yearbook is to provide an overview not only of the Department’s staff (i.e. administrative staff, professors, researchers and PhD students), but also of the research activities, the teaching activities (like, e.g., the new Master’s degree “Geophysics for Natural Risks and Resources” held completely in English), the laboratories and the communication and outreach activities that took place despite the Covid-19 pandemic.
Moreover, starting with this edition a section of the yearbook is dedicated to the “Geocontest”, a photo and writing competition open to the students of our bachelor’s s and master’s courses. The winners of this first edition, whose photos and essay are presented in the yearbook, are:
- Category “GeoSocial”: Enrico Zampieri, MSc student in Geology and Technical Geology, with the photo entitled “When finding an outcrop is harder than studying it”;
- Category “GeoScience”: Linda Lambertucci, BSc student in Geological Sciences, with the photo entitled “Abyssal star”;
- Category “GeoTale - writing contest”: Pietro Castellini, BSc student in Geological Sciences, with the essay entitled “Letter to Geology”.
Congratulations!
