Curriculum Vitae
After graduating in Earth Sciences at the University of Padova in 1987, Claudio Mazzoli became a researcher at the same University in 1990 and associate professor in Petrology and Petrography in December 2002. His teaching activity includes the following courses: Mineralogical and Petrographical Microscopy Laboratory, Applied Petrography, for Courses in Earth Sciences and in Sciences and Technology for Cultural Heritage, and Teaching of Earth Sciences, for the Course in Sciences for Primary Education. As regards research, he is deeply involved in the Mapping Project (CARG) of the metamorphic basement of the province of Bolzano, and also works on many different aspects of metamorphic petrology, with special regard to the study of white micas, low-grade mineral assemblages in basic rocks, characterisation and modelling of reaction microstructures, and metamorphic evolution of many European and extra-European crystalline basements. He also focuses on the application of proton sources to the study of geological materials, especially for geochronological and palaeo-environmental purposes. He recently carried out research of petrographic, geochemical and isotopic characterisation of marine and continental proxies for palaeo-climatic reconstructions, and applied petrology and archaeometry to the study of Bronze to Iron Age pottery from archaeological sites in the Veneto (north-eastern Italy), Central Syria, Northern Saudi Arabia and Sudan.
